Correction

The two entries at #14 and #18 actually represent a single institution which, because of a mid-decade name change, has temporarily been treated by ISI Essential Science Indicators Web product as two separate entities. In 1996, the La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation changed its name to the Burnham Institute. Figures from the two lines should be combined, giving the Burnham Institute 20,057 citations, placing them at #4 among institutions in apoptosis research. Future Essential Science Indicators rankings will present unified data for the two names under "Burnham Institute."
