Return to menu of Fast Breaking Papers

ISI Essential Science Indicators from ISI lists highly cited papers in 22 broad fields of science. These papers represent the top 1% of papers in each field and each year from 1991 through 2001. The lists are updated every two months, and new papers are added with every update. For example, in updating ESI from the second to the third bimonthly period of 2001 (to cover 10 years and six months of ISI data from 1991 through June of 2001) a total of 4,191 new papers were added that ranked in the top 1%. Special Topics has identified below a subset of these new papers, namely those published in the last two years (2000 and 2001) which have received the most citations in their particular fields. We call these "fast breaking papers" because they represent very recent scientific contributions that are just beginning to attract the attention of the scientific community. For full details and citation histories of these papers, see ISI Essential Science Indicators listings of highly cited papers by field. Some Fast Breaking Papers contain "Fast Breaking Comments/Mini-interviews," from the author(s) of the paper!
