ST:  Why do you think your paper is highly cited?

There is a critical shortage of organs with thousands of people waiting for a kidney transplant. My article is therefore a response to a current critical problem. Also, it was published in a journal that solicits comments.

ST:  Does it describe a new discovery or a new methodology that’s useful to others?

It describes and justifies a way to procure more organs.

ST:  Could you summarize the significance of your paper in layman’s terms?

People who agree to donate their kidneys after death are given an allocation preference should they need a kidney while alive. This is an arrangement a rational person should accept because it will help them if they should develop end-stage kidney disease at the cost of organ donation when they are dead and have no need for their organs.

ST:  How did you become involved in this research?

I direct an ethics consultation service in a medical center where we encounter ethical issues related to transplantation.End
